I think “spring has sprung” here in Harpers Ferry…..and I must admit….I’ve been feelin’ groovy!  It was 1966 when Simon and Garfunkel made us all smile with that tune…..and here it is, 44 years later…..and it still makes us smile!  Somtimes, you just need to slow down….make things last….enjoy the sunshine and the flowers.  But….if you find that you just can’t do that…the VL can help!  Check out the new creations under “The Birds and the Bees” section!

The past few days here in Harpers Ferry make me think that Spring is actually close!  There are still lots of patches of snow….but it may still be here for the 4th of July!  I love this Tree of Life pendant…as it reminds me of how strong we all have been to have made it through this winter!

     Many people think that Amber is a stone – it is actually an organic material made up of fossilized natural botanic resins.  Amber has been fashioned into jewelry for thousands of years. 

     In the mythology of ancient Greece when Phaeton, son of the sun god was struck and killed by lightning, the grief of his sisters was so great that it turned them to poplar trees and their tears were transformed to droplets of Amber.

     Many stones help us to connect to light, but Amber brings us to WARMTH.  The energies of Amber are very solar, and they have the quality of creating a comfortable sense of warmth, health and well-being in the wearer.

     Amber is recommended to be worn or carried by anyone recovering from illness or injury because its warm and nurturing energies!

     Not everyone can (or would want to) move to a warm, sunny climate…..but Amber facilitates the activation of a warm, sunny “interior climate.”

     Yet cameos were a less-than-delicate accessory since they first appeared in Ancient Egypt around 300 BCE. Now made primarily from shell, they were made of hardstone or agate.

     The image, typically a woman’s face, once depicted gods, goddesses, living heroes and  rulers and appeared on helmets, breastplates and sword handles among other places.

     The famous French leader Napoléon was enamored with the cameo. He wore one to his wedding and even founded a school in Paris where young apprentices could learn the fine art of Cameo making.  For men in the 18^th century, cameos represented prestige and culture, while Pope Paul II of the Renaissance period loved cameos so much he displayed them prominently on his fingers. Rumor has it the stone made his hands so cold he caught a chill and died.

     On the more romantic side: in the Hellenistic era women used cameos of a dancing Eros woman a comely invitation to love. How well they succeeded the Vintage Lady can only guess.
