SNOW Sale!
Thursday, February 11th, 2010Harpers Ferry in a blizzard!
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010After this weekend’s snow – I never would have believed that we could get even MORE snow! But….we did! It has been blizzard like all day…blowing and drifting snow…more accumulations….HEY, wait a minute – I sound like I am on the Weather Channel…maybe that is because it is on here all the time! Hope everyone stays safe and warm! However, I am pretty sure that we will still have snow in June!
Oh the weather outside is frightful!!!!!
Saturday, February 6th, 2010Well….we have 26″ so far….and it is STILL snowing! And…more snow is predicted for Tuesday!
Is it snowing yet?
Friday, February 5th, 2010Well, here in HF the snow has started! Predictions are crazy….so I am saying that we will be getting “1000″ inches….that way I am covered! The shop isn’t open….even the national park is closed! However….the online shop is ALWAYS open and I just put up some beautiful pendants called “Positive Quotations” – handmade in the USA! Don’t forget Valentines Day!
This round, reversible pendant features a heart and reads: If you have it, you don’t need to have anything else, and if you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter what else you have. Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile. Love is a canvas furnished by Nature and embroidered by imagination. To love deeply in one direction makes us more loving in all others.

The Timeless Beauty of the Cameo!
Monday, December 14th, 2009You may know that Cameos were a favorite of Queen Victoria of England, which she wore firmly clasped, upholding the Victorian fashion of the times.
Yet cameos were a less-than-delicate accessory since they first appeared in Ancient Egypt around 300 BCE. Now made primarily from shell, they were made of hardstone or agate.

The image, typically a woman’s face, once depicted gods, goddesses, living heroes and rulers and appeared on helmets, breastplates and sword handles among other places.
The famous French leader Napoléon was enamored with the cameo. He wore one to his wedding and even founded a school in Paris where young apprentices could learn the fine art of Cameo making. For men in the 18th century, cameos represented prestige and culture, while Pope Paul II of the Renaissance period loved cameos so much he displayed them prominently on his fingers. Rumor has it the stone made his hands so cold he caught a chill and died.
On the more romantic side: in the Hellenistic era women used cameos of a dancing Eros woman a comely invitation to love. How well they succeeded the Vintage Lady can only guess.
Top Chef…..
Friday, December 11th, 2009One show I really enjoy is Top Chef – and this season was most exciting – as it featured two “local” chefs. The Voltaggio brothers grew up in nearby Frederick, MD - in fact Bryan owns the very successful “Volt” restaurant there – http://www.voltrestaurant.com
The Vintage Lady has a lot of customers from the Frederick area. Who knows….maybe I’ll look up some day and see one of the Voltaggio brothers walking in. I am SURE they could find just the right gift for their mother – who also made a guest appearance on the show!
Congratulations to Michael for winning and to Bryan for coming in second…and to their very proud mom!
A beautiful snowy evening in Harpers Ferry!
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009Just sharing some photos – hope you enjoy!

2000 years old…..that’s older than ME!
Tuesday, December 8th, 2009Roman Glass jewelry is truly spectacular! These 2000 year old shards have been unearthed by archaeologists on ancient city sites once part of the Roman Empire.
The iridescent colors have evolved gradually over the centuries as a result of the glass’s reactions with sun, water, and the Earth it was buried in.
The Vintage Lady is lucky to have found two amazing artists in Israel who make this beatiful jewelry! Everyone woman should own at least one piece of this spectacular jewelry!
