Wood….by any other name….is a Feather!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

How strange is that?  Wood….Feather?????  Well, maybe if it is Featherwood!  Recently artist Buzz Coren contacted me after seeing the VL website.  He does this amazing line of jewelry out of wood…that is truly light as a “feather.” His work is made exclusively for galleries and boutiques…so the VL is MOST happy that he contacted her.  He cuts the earrings from a large block of dyed and natural hardwood veneer about 275 layers thick.  He actually dyes most of the veneers himself and no two pairs are ever exactly alike.  They are coated with a durable semi-gloss finish and fitted with surgical steel earwires.  The VL is happy…and proud…to carry the work of this amazing artist!  Thanks Buzz!DSC03067

An Amazing Week!

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

This has certainly been an amazing week!  The response to our new web site has been overwhelming…thanks to everyone who checked it out, made purchases  and forwarded  it to others!  I’ll be adding new things this week…so check back often!

Harpers Ferry is an amazing town….with something for everyone – history, water, hiking and shopping of course!  Last night we enjoyed the “hiking” part.  We attended a special viewing of  National Geographic’s documentary on the Appalachian Trail.  It will be on TV this week – and you really should see it!  The AT is a real treasure of America!

The headquarters for the AT is just up the street – and HF is considered the mid point for thru hikers.  When they start arriving in town it is so exciting and interesting!  For more info about the AT check out their web site:  www.appalachiantrail.org

Harpers Ferry Vintage Lady Announces an All-New Shopping Experience

Harpers Ferry, WV  November 10, 2009.  The Vintage Lady, Harpers Ferry West Virginia’s sassiest jewelry and accessory store, today announced the launching of an all-new online location at www.vintageladyharpersferry.com.

Now customers can shop, get special viewings of sale items, and get unusual information from tips about cleaning jewelry to the history of their favorite gems. And, they can sign up for The Vintage Lady’s monthly newsletter to learn about special deals and even more great ideas.

“Many of our customers come from locations outside of Harpers Ferry,” says Cindi Dunn, who, with her husband Billy Ray, is proprietor of The Vintage Lady. “They love the fact that our jewelry is unique and wonderfully affordable, and want to buy it year round. We already had an online presence, but given the demand, we decided to redesign and reopen it.”

Ms. Dunn is quick to add that customers enjoy the experience of visiting the Vintage Lady, which is always fun and engaging. They also appreciate the advice the Dunns and their employees happily give them whether they’re selecting a birthday gift for a friend or buying a special treat for themselves. That same spirit is reflected in their online presence, as well…all for what Ms. Dunn summarizes as “happy prices.”

One customer, Ashley Jones, a student at Shepherd University, reports a typical customer experience. “I just happened to be in Harpers Ferry one day last summer and walked into The Vintage Lady,” she says. “I loved the selection: they have jewelry, clothes and all sorts of surprises from all around the world. So you can imagine how surprised I was that I could afford it! I even bought a pair of earrings for my mother!”

West Virginia native Cindi Dunn began her career in the jewelry and accessory business almost 15 years ago when she began selling pins she designed from old costume jewelry, antique buttons, watch parts, and other collectibles. After selling her work in states throughout the Mid Atlantic she and her husband Billy Ray Dunn officially left their jobs as educators and moved to Harpers Ferry full time. As for The Vintage Lady: she can be seen in her signature lime green garb online and at the Harpers Ferry store.

For more information, contact Cindi or Billy Ray Dunn at vinjewelry@aol.com or call (304) 535-1313. You can visit them at their new, online home at www.vintageladyharpersferry.com.

The Adventures of a Web Site!

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

A few months ago, I met an amazing new friend, Susan Benjamin – owner of Greater Voice Enterprises. What started out being a discussion about some great new marketing ideas – evolved into redesigning the web site for The Vintage Lady! It was time for an “over haul” – and I quickly knew she was the person to help me. Then….enter Steve Sickman, of Steve Sickman Designs….together they have created a “new and improved” Vintage Lady online presence! Of course….it has not been without its challenges…mainly ME! The three of us have each had our role in getting the site ready….however, I think I am going to get fired….at least if I was paying myself I would fire me! I have lost pages….moved things that shouldn’t have been moved….it has been an “adventure” that is for sure! I hope you find The “NEW” Vintage Lady an enjoyable shopping experience! I will be adding new items weekly….there will be special sales….many interesting articles…and of course….”sassy” comments on a variety of subjects! Thank you Susan and Steve for transforming The Vintage Lady….she has “arrived!”

Welcome to the NEW Vintage Lady! Sassy…classy…with prices that will make you smile!

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

We’re so excited to showcase our amazing artists from all around the country and the world…and provide our wonderful customers (like YOU!) with special deals.  We even get to link you into the great shops, restaurants and sights around Harpers Ferry.  That was the “classy” part.  As for the “sassy” part?  Well, everyone knows we’re always sassy!  Just look!

The Vintage Lady Says…
The Citrine is Sunny and Perfect

November’s official stone, the citrine, is many things…and isn’t. It’s called the Spanish topaz yet it’s actually a quartz. Its brilliant yellow color is rare and its shine delicate …yet it’s sturdy and resistant to scratches. Primarily found in Spain, France, and Hungary, the ancient Romans admired it as did Art Deco fans of the 1920s.

No question, experts tout its virtues and health and wellness benefits for you. Here are just a few of them:

  • Gain focus and clarity
  • Sharpen your mental faculties and concentration
  • Gain the vitality necessary to accomplish tasks
  • Strengthen stomach muscles, improve digestion, and eliminate bile
  • Access masculine energy
  • Attract helpful friends and mentors

Perhaps because of its sunny color, citron fights stress and negativity. Even better, it installs joy in all who go near it…and brings good things into your life.
