This is a common name for a metal alloy, a combination of metals, of copper, nickel and occasionally other metals such as zinc, tin or cadmium. Because of its visual similarities to sterling silver, alpaca is frequently used in jewelry as a less expensive alternative to true silver. It is easy to care for, requiring only lemon juice or a mild soap to remove tarnish.
